New Preacher

Here we find ourselves human beings,

befuddled by what it means to live,

the problem of being made into sexes,

the difficulty of international wars,

the mystery of where we came from, yes,

the biosphere and the rest of it.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Turks and Greeks,

Chinamen and all the rest of you,

what we have here is a lot of confusion,

leading to what we call enemies, angst,

frustration and fear of the good old days

getting amplified, a lot of bad faith.

May I suggest a simplification:

Just be yourselves in the backs of your minds.

Otherwise spend every waking hour

saying People are equal; we’re all the same;

death and torture if we don’t act right.

Everyone, take up the challenge!
