History, Relevance

I fear that History doesn’t matter,

that ignorance and common chatter

instruct the learned, here, as in language,

survive as Truth, and  tell 'The Story,'

affording reasons for more disasters.

All the Public holds in mind

is the evening news, the very latest,

so whatever has happened recently is acted on;

And History becomes irrelevant

when more than a few days old.
