Marriage (Boxing Metaphor)
The world is full of featherweights
that flit from fuck to fuck,
but you and I are heavyweights
who hardly have to duck.
We take it on the temple
and we take it on the chin,
we take the low blow gingerly
and butts and thumbs are in.
We bring each other ice-bags
that marriage may survive,
and do the roadwork jointly
to toughen both our lives.
